Dear Parishioners and Friends at St. Anne's,

I was just 4 days short of packing my bags to return to HK, when my plans, my shoulder and my hip were shattered.  I'm now in a wonderful nursing home, surrounded by my family and friends in Ohio.  I am on schedule with therapy, but it will be a long time, so my return to HK has no date yet.  I was really looking forward to seeing many of you for my 84th birthday this Sunday, but my wonderful family will be taking over and many will gather here at the nursing home to help me celebrate.  We will be thinking of you, and I hope I can someday have a rain check.  I still miss all of you very much.  I thank God for the wonderful way you treated me for so many years.  I am learning that our plans can also be changed, sometimes causing a lot of unhappiness, but I am in the hands of the Lord, of my family and of a wonderful Christian community here.  Let's patiently wait the Lord's plan to be carried out.

We have received word from Maryknoll that Fr. Elmer Wurth had a bad fall at his family's home in Ohio last Thursday.  He broke both his hip and his collarbone in the fall. 

Fr. Elmer has already undergone surgery for a hip replacement, and will need a period of therapy to regain his ability to walk properly again.  There was nothing the doctors could do for the collarbone, so that will be a long, natural healing process.  

According to Fr. Elmer's nephew, Gary, despite his painful injuries and surgery, Fr. Elmer remains in good spirits. 

Please keep Fr. Elmer and his recovery in your prayers.

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will be held after Mass each Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.  (The Thursday mass, in English, is scheduled weekly for 9:00 am).

Applications closed.  Successful applicants who have received an email from the Parish Office should please collect their car park labels on or before 30 September 2013.  Labels unclaimed after 30 September 2013 will automatically go to those on the waiting list.

Beginning on September 3rd, weekday Mass in English will resume at St Anne’s Parish Hall on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9AM and on Saturdays at 11:30AM

This Friday, September 6th, is First Friday.  There will be a mass celebrated in honor of the Sacred Heart in the Parish Hall (upstairs) at 19:30.

Information regarding Fr. Ed's farewell party on September 8^th has been put up at the back of the church. 

All parishioners are invited to come and say thank you and good bye to him.  Please sign up to be a volunteer and bring a dish to share.

We have very limited Sunday car parking space at St Stephen’s College this year and if you wish to apply, please contact Fr. John or our parish secretary, Lisa.

Rarely does an institution’s health depend on a single event for its wellbeing and its effectiveness for the rest of the year.  But St. Anne’s is an exception.

There is an event that we conduct once a year that determines our ability to provide quality pastoral care and outreach ministries: Service Sunday. 

Next weekend, August 31 and September 1^st, we will ask parishioners, young and old, to offer some service for specific activities and ministries that will be carried out during the rest of the year.  Participation from each family in this endeavor is critical to the quality of our common parish life.  Some needs have relatively small time commitments and do not require experience.

There will be no English daily Mass from Monday through Saturday of this coming week, May 6th – 11th. The only Mass offered will be in Cantonese at 7:15 am at the Carmelite Monastery.

The Diocesan English Youth Group will have a gathering and Mass at St. Teresa'a Church, Kowloon, on Sunday, May 12^th. The gathering is from 1:45 pm to 4:30 pm.  More information is available on the parish bulletin board.

As an expression of our solidarity with our brethren suffering from the earthquake in Sichuan on 20 April, Cardinal John Tong is appealing to the faithful to pray for them and the rescue workers, as well as for our generous support in today's second collection for the emergency relief efforts to be undertaken with the collaboration of Caritas-Hong Kong and the partnership of the Church in Mainland China.

Thanks to the children of class 5B who sponsored the 11:15am Mass last week. Special thanks to their teacher, Paul Donnelly, for preparing the students.
